Materials for the Arts (MFTA) collects surplus materials from businesses and individuals and redistributes them, free of charge, to nonprofits with ongoing arts programming and New York City public schools.  MFTA is a program of New York City’s Department of Cultural Affairs with additional support from the Departments of Sanitation and Education. In 2014, MFTA’s donation cycle diverted 1,220,000 pounds of material from the landfill. These quality goods were redistributed to 2,205 nonprofits and public schools across the five boroughs.
