Magda Giannikou is an accordionist, a pianist, singer, composer, orchestrator, songwriter, and music producer. Born and raised in Athens, she began her musical training in classical music and jazz. After teaching at elementary schools in Greece, writing music for television and theater in her native Athens, and participating in more than 50 children’s productions, she moved to Boston, where she studied film music at the Berklee College of Music. A winner of multiple awards, such as the Georges Delerue Award for achievement in Film Scoring, and the BMI Film Scholarship, she moved to New York just after her studies. She then formed Banda Magda, a group that plays a blend of French song and Latin American rhythms, as well as jazz improvisation. Banda Magda has obtained an enthusiastic audience across the globe with performances in the U.S., France, Luxemburg, Greece, Colombia and Canada.
